Microsoft Teams includes a native feature called "Custom Streaming" that allows you to send the meeting's video and audio feed to an external platform using the RTMP protocol.
Follow this step-by-step guide to configure the stream between Teams and Sparkup.
1. Teams Administration Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure that your organization's IT administrator has enabled the streaming option:
Go to the Teams Admin Center.
Navigate to Meetings > Meeting Policies.
Verify that Live streaming via RTMP is turned On for the user organizing the webinar.
2. Retrieve information from Sparkup
In your Sparkup session (set to "External Encoder" mode):
Under the General tab, click on Broadcast stream.
Copy the RTMP URL and the Stream Key (this is a unique code).
3. Configure Teams to send the stream
Once you are inside your Teams meeting or webinar:
Click the Apps button (+ icon) at the top of the window.
Search for and add the app named "Custom Streaming".
A side panel will open. Enter the information retrieved from Sparkup:
Server URL: Paste the RTMP URL.
Stream key: Paste the Stream Key.
Click Save.
4. Start the broadcast
As soon as you and your speakers are ready, click Start streaming in the Teams side panel.
Important: Please note that streaming through Teams often introduces an additional delay (latency) of 15 to 30 seconds.
Always verify on Sparkup that the feed is being received correctly before "pushing" the live stream to your participants.
