As a host, you have two ways to stop a live session in progress: pause (temporary stop) or close (permanent stop). These two actions have very different effects on your participants' experience.
Pausing the Live
Pausing stops the video stream without ending the session. Your participants remain connected and still have access to all features (chat, activities, Q&A...), but the player displays a waiting screen instead of the stream.
To resume the live after a pause, simply restart your broadcast from the host interface using the "Resume Live" button.
💡 Tip: Use pause for short interruptions (such as a break between segments). Your participants stay connected and do not lose access to the session.
🔔 Reminder: the effective duration of a live webinar is a maximum of 4 hours.
Permanently Closing the Session
Closing permanently ends the live session. This action:
- Switches the participant interface to end-of-live mode: the player displays a black screen with an end label, and all features (chat, activities, reactions...) disappear.
- Triggers the generation of the replay: the complete webinar video is assembled from all session recordings (if there are multiple recordings related to any pauses).
To close the session, click the Pause button in the header, then click Close Session.
⚠️ Important: Closing is an irreversible action. Once the session is closed, it is not possible to resume the live.
What Your Participants See After Closing
Immediately upon closing, the participant interface automatically switches: the player displays a black screen with an end message, and all session features (chat, activities, live reactions) are no longer accessible.
After Closing
Once the session is closed, you can:
- Download the replay as soon as it is available via the Recordings button in the header. → See Downloading the Replay
- View analytics and export participation data from the Analytics tab. → See Session Analytics
💡 No post-live emails are automatically sent to your participants by Sparkup at this time. If you wish to contact them (sharing the replay, satisfaction survey, etc.), you can do so manually using your usual tool.
